Jonathan SmithThe Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty are leading a coalition in the District to explore the creation of a right to safe, decent, affordable and accessible housing.   They launched the effort this summer.   Legal Aid supports the project.

Local interest in the issue will be given a boost by international attention.  The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing is engaged in the preparation of a report on the United States.  She will be touring the country and has selected the District as one of five cities to visit.  There will be public hearings on November 7.
