DC Pro Bono Week 2019 is just around the corner, October 20-26. And there are a full slate of events and affiliated trainings scheduled throughout October for folks who want to learn more about what pro bono opportunities are available throughout the city. Please help spread the word!

Here are just a few highlights that may be of particular interest to Legal Aid's pro bono partners:

Kick off DC Pro Bono Week at Pro Bono Goes Local, a breakfast celebration featuring Chief Judges of the D.C. Courts and other special guests, on October 16, from 8:30-9:30 a.m., at Crowell & Moring. We have convened a panel of all stars to highlight their pro bono experiences in a dynamic lightning talk format that we hope will spark your enthusiasm for local pro bono.

Legal Aid is hosting a special Lunch and Learn: Helping Families Secure Safety and Stability, on October 17, from 12-1:30 p.m. Bring your "brown bag" lunch and join us here at Legal Aid to learn from our family law experts about representing survivors of domestic violence who are seeking long-term stability for themselves and their children through permanent custody orders.

****

The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center is hosting a two-part training on Landlord and Tenant Practice in the District of Columbia on October 23 and 30, from 5:45-8:45 p.m. (Legal Aid is a sponsor of this training.) The training is designed to equip attorneys who have little or no experience in landlord/tenant law to competently handle these matters for pro bono clients.

****

The Network for Victim Recovery of DC (NVRDC) is offering a training for pro bono attorneys on Trauma-Informed Lawyering on October 24, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of trauma, as well as skills for supporting pro bono clients who are survivors of trauma.
