After eight suspenseful weeks, the 2015 Generous Associates Campaign has concluded with another record-shattering result. This year’s campaign has raised $1,367,000, eclipsing last year’s total by more than $100,000!

Legal Aid is deeply grateful to all who helped make justice real this summer – most of all, to our Co-Chairs and Coordinators, who devoted a tremendous amount of time and energy to this effort. This year’s campaign was the most successful fundraiser – of any type – in Legal Aid’s 83-year history.

As Honorary Chair Kathy Ruemmler of Latham & Watkins put it, “It was an honor to serve as the Honorary Chair of the 2015 Generous Associates Campaign. But it is even more an honor to have served as the Honorary Chair of the record-breaking Campaign. I am so proud and inspired by what this Campaign has accomplished. The Co-Chairs and Coordinators have demonstrated tremendous generosity and enthusiasm – inspiring their colleagues and firms to generously ensure that Legal Aid had another stellar campaign this year. I am humbled to have been part of this effort to make justice real for D.C. residents living in poverty.”

This year’s Campaign was suspenseful – but exciting – from beginning to end, with competition among firms that was fiercer than ever. Indeed, the top two firms raised a combined $300,000-plus, more than 20% of the Campaign total. This incredible distinction goes to Latham & Watkins ($165,000) and WilmerHale ($136,000), earning them both slots in the CulinAerie Cooking Competition.

Notably, the next two highest firm fundraising efforts both broke their previous records, with Williams & Connolly and Skadden raising $69,000 and $53,000, respectively. Also worthy of special mention are top firms in their respective size categories: Bryan Cave; Miller & Chevalier; Dickstein Shapiro; Pillsbury; and Wiley Rein. Legal Aid congratulates these firms and all the firms that placed in the Top Fundraising Firms competition this year.

Legal Aid’s new Outstanding Generous Associates! program also broke a record this year, with 584 non-partner donors who gave $250 or more to the Campaign.

As noted above, representatives from Latham & Watkins and WilmerHale, as well as attorneys from 8 additional qualifying firms (selected at random through a drawing held on Wednesday, August 5th), will participate in the third annual Generous Associates cooking competition on October 1st at 6:30 PM at CulinAerie.

It is truly extraordinary that D.C.’s generous associates (and partners and others) have not only surpassed last year’s enormously successful effort, but also made this the most successful campaign in Legal Aid’s history. This Campaign raised approximately one quarter of Legal Aid’s budget, so it is no exaggeration to say survivors of domestic violence will get to safety, families will remain safe in their homes, and elderly D.C. residents will receive the health care they need and to which they are entitled under the law because of what was accomplished by D.C.’s generous lawyers this summer. We cannot thank you enough.
