As this year’s Honorary Chair of the Generous Associates Campaign, I am pleased to be a part of this extraordinary effort to help make justice real this summer!

The Generous Associates Campaign, as many of you know, is an associate-driven fundraising effort which raises almost one fifth of Legal Aid’s budget every year. Last year, the efforts of more 170 law firm associates from 68 firms raised an astonishing $972,000! It is a testament to D.C.’s committed legal community that this Campaign has set a record every year for the past three years. It is no surprise, therefore, that this year’s Co-Chairs have set the Campaign goal at $1 million – a goal that I know we can reach with your help.

As exciting as a million-dollar goal is, it is important to remember what this Campaign is really about. It is about helping the mother in Anacostia and her two small children escape domestic violence; it is about helping an elderly grandmother in the Shaw Neighborhood gain access to the medication she needs; it is about preventing foreclosure for a couple and their child; and it is about helping a family obtain much-needed repairs to stay in their home.

If your firm is not participating in the Campaign, it is most definitely not too late. Please contact Eric Angel or Gregg Kelley to learn more.

Over the next 30 days, I hope you will join us by donating to Legal Aid, participating in firm events (corn hole competitions, happy hours, etc.), and encouraging your colleagues to give to the Campaign. You can follow the progress of the Campaign by following Legal Aid on Facebook and Twitter this year, and share your own events and successes using the hashtag #LegalAidGAC.

I look forward to being a part of the legacy that is the Generous Associates Campaign, and I encourage you to have fun and show your support for Legal Aid by making a donation this summer to help make justice real for some of D.C.’s most vulnerable residents.

Remember that Legal Aid’s services benefit thousands of individuals living in poverty in D.C. every year – your support could make a life-changing difference to our neighbors in the District. Thank you.
