RAGLEPHOTO-2012-LADC-CHINH-1046-11552-FINAL-c5x7adobeRGBI’m pleased to announce that Legal Aid’s Legal Director, Chinh Le, has been recognized as one of D.C.’s Rising Stars by the National Law Journal. Chinh is one of 40 “game-changing lawyers age 40 and under” from the private, public and advocacy sectors in the District.

Chinh has had an impressive year as a poverty law leader both within Legal Aid and in the greater D.C. community. As Legal Director, Chinh oversees, manages, and provides leadership for the organization’s legal program, which includes roughly forty lawyers and five legal assistants. He is also a leader city-wide. Shortly after his arrival in D.C., Chinh was elected Co-Chair of the D.C. Consortium of Legal Services Providers and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington Council of Lawyers. He was also a lead member of a D.C. Access to Justice Commission task force that led a successful effort to persuade the D.C. Superior Court to promulgate rules allowing for limited scope representation.

At Legal Aid, Chinh has led the organization's expansion with several new, innovative projects, including the creation of a community office in Southwest D.C., a courthouse foreclosure prevention project, and a holistic domestic violence program. Legal Aid has grown substantially in the three years Chinh has been its top lawyer and strategist.

Prior to joining Legal Aid, Chinh was the Director of the Division on Civil Rights in the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General, where he led the state’s enforcement of state and federal civil rights and family leave laws. Between 2001 and 2006, he served as assistant counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund in New York, the first two years as a Skadden Fellow. Chinh spent a year as a practitioner-in-residence at Seton Hall Law School and as an adjunct associate research scholar at Columbia Law School. He has also worked as a litigation associate at Jenner & Block. A graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia School of Law, Chinh served as a law clerk to the Honorable Walter Stapleton on the Third Circuit.

Legal Aid congratulates Chinh on this well-deserved recognition!
