Legal Aid Earns Charity Navigator’s 4-Star Rating
We are proud to announce that Legal Aid has received Charity Navigator’s highest rating -– four out of four stars -– for sound fiscal management, accountability, and transparency. Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities, providing donors with essential information to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make.
Since 1932, Legal Aid’s mission has been to make justice real -– in individual and systemic ways –- for persons living in poverty in D.C. While Legal Aid’s primary mission is providing legal services to low-income D.C. residents, we recognize that it is equally essential that we demonstrate good governance, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and other best practices, to maintain the trust and confidence of our donors.
“In the current economic environment, it’s important that our donors trust that we’re using our funding wisely to accomplish Legal Aid’s mission of making justice real for individuals living in poverty in D.C.,” said Executive Director Eric Angel. “Our 4-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our supporters that we take our fiduciary and governance responsibilities very seriously.”
Receiving this “exceptional” designation is a testament to Legal Aid’s performance as only one out of every four charities rated by Charity Navigator receives this distinction. As we begin this year’s Annual Appeal, in which we are asking law firms, corporations, and individuals to donate to Legal Aid, we vow to continue to work hard to assure our donors that their contributions are being used efficiently and wisely.
