Eric Angel, Executive Director

Eric Angel, Legal Aid's Executive Director, is quoted in a December 17, 2012 article (subscription required) in the National Law Journal about significant changes in the District's legal landscape over the past year and the challenges that the D.C. Courts face in the coming year.  One positive development Eric highlighted is the revision of the rules of judicial conduct, which included a new provision encouraging judges to play a more "affirmative role" in matters involving self-represented litigants.  Eric is quoted in the article as saying that "[i]t'll take a long time for that to be integrated into every single judge's mind-set, but it's a very important ethics rule." He is further quoted as noting that working with pro se litigants is "what judges end up doing a lot of, even if it's not what they were thinking when they signed up."  For more information about the revised code, read this blog post.
